A US man has been accused of scamming horror movie fans out of £650,000 by selling fake vintage posters on online auction sites.
Kerry Haggard is alleged to have made high quality fake posters of horror classics like ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Frankenstein’ for four years, selling them on sites like eBay.
It’s been claimed that he enlisted a New York printing company to make the fake posters.
FBI Special Agent George Venizelos said, “Authentic vintage movie posters are valuable pieces of memorabilia sometimes worth thousands of dollars. But Haggard wasn't a legitimate purveyor of fine collectibles. He created and peddled fakes.”
Haggard is also alleged to have swapped fake posters for genuine vintage collectors items.
Attorney Preet Bharara called the scam a “real-life horror show.”
