FIM Superbike World Championship 2014 Rules

Following various meetings between the FIM, Dorna and the MSMA, a new framework has been put in place for the progressive application of the new Superbike rules. The new rules are aimed at reducing costs for the motorcycle and its components.

1. The rules changes for the 2014 FIM Superbike World Championship season will be as follows:

• A limited number of engines (eight) per rider/per season.
• A limited number of gear ratios.
• A price cap on the brakes.
• A price cap on the suspensions.

2. In order to ensure that there are a sufficient number of riders with competitive motorcycles on the grid, the MSMA has agreed to provide, on request, a complete motorcycle package at a fixed prize, for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The motorcycle packages supplied will be the same as those used by the manufacturer and will receive certain updates and maintenance from the manufacturers during the season.

3. Under the new rules, there will be a sub-category known as the EVO class. This class will follow the FIM Superbike technical regulations for all chassis, suspension and brake components. On the engine and electronics side, however, these motorcycles will follow the present FIM Superstock rules. The price cap on brakes and suspensions will be the same as Superbike.

More details about the EVO technical rules will be available on the FIM Website shortly.

A draft of the new technical rules will be published on the FIM website by 26 August.

Eugene Laverty may well remain in World Superbike on a third factory Aprilia following emergency talks at Jerez on Monday.

The Irishman was due to fly out on Monday night but a last-minute call saw him order his bags to be taken out of the hold and he travelled back to the Spanish circuit for discussions with new Aprilia race boss Romano Albesiano, who has replaced Gigi Dall'Igna.

Laverty was in advanced talks with the Pramac Ducati team for a switch to MotoGP but negotations have slowed to a crawl. Laverty also has a firm offer from Paul Denning's Fixi Suzuki team as a back-up plan.

"My situation for next season seems to change every day. Aprilia are very keen to keep me in World Superbikes on a factory-supported bike and I am very interested," said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.

"Their new racing manager Romano Albesiano admits that his only wish would be to turn back the clock and we could have easily have avoided this situation months earlier.

"Ducati have a big interest in taking me to MotoGP but as I have said before, everything must be right if I am to make the switch to MotoGP. I have been there before just to make up the numbers and my intention has always been to return on the right terms.

"I feel privileged that Fixi Suzuki have been so keen to obtain my signature but I cannpt keep them waiting forever. A decision must be made soon."

Alstare were responsible for running the Panigale in 2013 but they have split with Ducati in recent days. A spokeman for the Bologna factory said: "This is an important decision for Ducati, determined to bounce back after a year of disappointing results for the 1199 Panigale, which failed to deliver the results expected in World Superbike despite its considerable success in many national championships and the highly-competitive FIM Superstock Cup."

The pair will immediately join technicians of the Ducati development team to start work 30-31 October at Jerez, carrying out the first of three test sessions planned for the winter break.

Laverty moves to Fixi Suzuki World Superbike squad


Eugene Laverty has reportedly signed a two-year deal with Suzuki to move to the Fixi World Superbike team in 2014 and then to the MotoGP squad the following year.

Although nothing has been made official, sources close to the team say Laverty will partner Alex Lowes next year which leaves Leon Camier looking for a ride in 2014 after two seasons with the Crescent-run squad.

Laverty had been waiting for a firm seat with Aprilia but securing a spot in either an Alstare or Althea-run team was taking too long, so he has jumped to Paul Denning's operation and has a spot with the MotoGP team for 2015 as an option.

Camier could well move back into the Aprilia fold with either of the above teams or switch back into British Superbikes, possibly with Samsung Honda, but that won't be a move he is keen to make.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Eugene Laverty will make his first appearance in Suzuki colours when he heads to the NEC in Birmingham, England on Saturday November 23rd.

Laverty was recently announced as an official Suzuki World Superbike rider for the 2014 eni FIM Superbike World Championship and the Irishman will make his initial outing during day-one of the ‘Motorcycle Live’ Show – which takes place from Saturday November 23rd until Sunday December 1st – as a special guest of Suzuki GB.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s new rider will be on hand to do signings on the day, as Laverty participates in autograph sessions as well as question-and-answer appearances on the Suzuki stand at 11.00 and 15.00.

Alex Lowes is on the pace during World Superbiketesting at Jerez, setting a fastest lap less than a second slower than reigning world champion Tom Sykes and ahead of the Pata Honda duo.

Riding the Voltcom Suzuki, Lowes put in a best of 1'41.2 at the Spanish track compared to Sykes' best of 1'40.3 but the WSBK rookie matched the time of Aprilia new boy Marco Melandri and was a full second ahead of Leon Haslam.

Eugene Laverty, who made his debut on the GSX-R1000 on Monday, has apparently suffered some electronics problems and put in a 1'42.9. Christian Iddon has also been out testing an Evo-spec Kawasaki World Superbike, lapping at 1'43.0.

Κάπου το ξανάκουσα αυτό αλλά όλο το κόλπο είναι στα μπλιμπλίκια.
Όταν λοιπόν η ομάδα κάνει τεστ μοτο τζι πι όλο και κάποιο κόλπο πέφτει
και πιο κάτω.
Εγώ αυτά κατάλαβα αλλά μέσα δεν είμαι να ξέβρω.

Και πέρσι τέτοια εποχή ο Camier πήγαινε αεροπορία αλλά όταν ξεκίνησε το πρωτάθλημα τους έψαχνες με το κυάλι. Ρημαχτήκανε και στις τούμπες. Μακάρι βέβαια να πάνε καλά γιατί προς το παρόν μου φαίνεται ότι άμα ζεσταθεί ο Sykes, κανείς δεν θα μπορεί να κάνει τίποτα. Τα Απρίλια σαν να ψάχνονται, τα Χόντα μάλλον εκεί που ήταν πάντα...

Προβλεψη αγωνα:
Ο Giugliano φευγει μπροστα στην αρχη, μονο για να πεσει 2 γυρους μετα. Ο Αλεξ κανει κακη εκκινηση απο την πρωτη σειρα και στην προσπαθεια του να φυγει μπροστα βγαζει εκτος πιστας κανα-δυο οδηγους (ευτυχως ο Yates θα ειναι πιο πισω, αλλιως θα τον εβρισκε μετα για μερικες μπουνιες). Τελικα τα απριλια κανουν το 1-3, με εναν πρασινο αναμεσα τους. Θα ειχε πολυ γελιο μπουαχαχα! :a25:
Απογοητευση τα EBR, περιμενα λογο ανυπαρκτης εξελιξης και πολυ κατωτερων οδηγων να ειναι προς τα πισω, αλλα οχι και πιο πισω απο ολα τα EVO :(

Ο Bazooka ειχε φαει 2-3 τουμπες πριν τον αγωνα, ολο του εφτιαχναν το μηχανακι και ολο το εσπαγε...

Τι ειναι το evo ρε παιδια? Κατι σαν τα crt?

Evo είναι υποκατηγορια που απο το 2015 ολα τα μηχανακια θα ειναι ετσι για περιορισμο κοστους και καλα κτλ, κατι παρομοιο με αυτο που εγινε στα BSB.
Τα Evo εχουν κινητηρα και ηλεκτρονικα πολυ πιο κοντα στα μοντελα παραγωγης, και ενω δεν εβαλαν αλλους περιορισμους σε πλαισιο-αναρτησεις-φρενα κτλ σε σχεση με περσυ, εβαλαν περιορισμους κοστους σε αυτα. Εβαλαν και το πολυ αστειο οριο για 6 μοτερ ολη η σεζον, κοινως η Dorna τα εκανε χαλια παλι. Τα Suzuki εβγαλαν 320 στην ευθεια οπως οι Aprilia, αλλα οπως ειδαμε ο Laverty εχει 5 μοτερ πλεον για την υπολοιπη σεζον...

Να προσθεσω οτι αλλαξαν τους κανονισμους λογο οικονομικης κρισης και πεσμενων πωλησεων σπορ μοτοσυκλετων (και για να μπει η Βimota), και πλεων πρεπει να εχουν 125 μοναδες ετοιμες πριν ξεκινησει η σεζον, 00 νομιζω μεχρι το τελος της σεζον και 1000 μεχρι το τελος της δευτερης σεζον;;;
Κοινως μπορει να δουμε και μοτοσυκλετες πειραγμενες ή ακομα και σχεδιασμενες αποκλειστικα με στοχο καλυτερη επιδοση στα WSBK.

The World Superbike Championship has fired back into action with Ducati dominating the opening day of a private test at Jerez.

Ahead of the second WSBK round at Motorland Aragon, five of the teams have travelled out to Spain to bring themselves up to speed and prepare themselves for a busy European period, with Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies confirming the positive steps forward made by Ducati over the winter by pacing the first day.

Quickest of all was Giugliano by a comfortable four tenths of a second, ahead of 1199 Panigale team-mate Davies, while Tom Sykes followed up in third on the Kawasaki a further tenth behind.

After a difficult opening round, Jonathan Rea – who didn't race at Jerez in 2013 – was fourth best for Pata Honda, ahead of leading Aprilia rider Sylvain Guintoli and Suzuki's Alex Lowes, the WSBK rookie showing good pace despite his injured ankle.

Marco Melandri, Loris Baz, Leon Haslam and Phillip Island race winner Eugene Laverty rounded out the top ten, while Kawasaki Racing's David Salom was 11th quickest as the sole EVO rider present at the test.
