MotoGP heads down under for Sunday's race at Phillip Island

With the 2014 MotoGP World Championship title confirmed for Marc Marquez, the Repsol Honda star arrives in Australia in a relaxed mood, but the fight for second place in the overall standings between Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo will continue to rage on at Phillip Island.

The picturesque Island circuit is a favorite for riders and fans alike and another exciting race can be expected on Sunday at the Tissot Australian Grand Prix, as MotoGP checks in straight from Motegi.

With the pressure off Marquez, who secured the title on home territory for Honda with a calculated ride to second place in Japan, the newly-crowned double MotoGP World Champion can ride freely as he goes in search of a 12th victory of a remarkable second season in the premier class. Last year on the Island, Marquez was disqualified for failing to respect the timing of a mandatory bike swap so he would love to make amends this time out.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s nine-time World Champion Rossi and Marquez’s Honda teammate Pedrosa are joint second in the standings ahead of round 16 and both are determined to cement the runner-up position in the championship over the final three rounds.

Rossi demonstrated his fitness and pace again by finishing on the podium at Motegi after his big crash at Aragon, whilst Pedrosa crossed the line just 0.555s behind the Italian. Both have tasted victory at Phillip Island in their careers though, in Pedrosa’s case, not in the premier class.

One rider in great form heading to Australia is Rossi’s Yamaha colleague Lorenzo who has won back-to-back races at the last two rounds. He has been in great shape in the second half of 2014 so far and has notched up seven consecutive podiums – moving him to within three points of Pedrosa and Rossi in the standings.

Last year at Phillip Island, Lorenzo took victory by seven seconds in a race which involved the riders changing bikes midway through due to tire durability concerns. The Spaniard is also a former 250cc race winner at the venue.
Now champion, Marquez aims to end record winless drought ... of three races

Behind Lorenzo in the standings, Andrea Dovizioso is having a good season in fifth place overall, the same position in which he finished Sunday’s race in Japan. Saturday saw Dovizioso take his and Ducati’s first pole position since 2010 and the experienced Italian continues to improve his team’s competitiveness on the evolving GP14.2.

Brothers Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) and Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) are locked in an intriguing battle for sixth place in the standings, with elder sibling Aleix one point ahead of Pol at present.

Also pushing for prominence in the top 10 are the likes of Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing), Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP) and Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) who will all be giving it full gas at Phillip Island from Friday to Sunday.

The race will be shown LIVE in its entirety beginning Saturday night/Sunday morning at midnight on FOX Sports 1.

Lorenzo eyeing hat-trick of victories

– Jorge Lorenzo has set his sights on claiming a third straight MotoGP victory at the Australian Grand Prix.

After enduring a tough start to the campaign, the factory Yamaha rider took four second-place finishes in a row when the MotoGP field returned from the summer break, going on to win at MotorLand Aragón and Motegi.

The Spaniard hopes to continue his winning sequence at Phillip Island, where he triumphed last season.

"It was a great feeling to win in Motegi again. Winning two races in a row after a very disappointing start of the season was unbelievable, not only for me but also for all the guys from Yamaha who worked really hard," he said.

"Now I look forward to racing in Phillip Island. Australia is always special and the layout is always perfect for having fun. I love the long and fast corners, especially the last one before going towards the straight to the finish.

"Hopefully we can fight for the victory again, which is so important regarding second in the championship."

Lorenzo sits fourth in the standings, three points behind Honda's Dani Pedrosa and team-mate Valentino Rossi.

Για μενα ηταν Αυστραλια=Στονερ , χωρις στονερ δεν ειναι το ιδιο πιστευω και ειδικα για καθαροαιμο στονερικο.
Το Phillip Island δεν θα ξαναειναι ποτε το ιδιο μεχρι να βρεθει καποιος -Αυστραλος και μη- και να κανει αυτα που εκανε ο στονερ στην πιστα αυτη.
Τι να πρωτοθυμηθει κανεις για τον χαβαλε που εκανε ο χαβαλες στην πιστα αυτη, το +1 δευτερολεπτο απο τους υπολοιπους στον γυρο ? τα powerslidings που εκανε με το μπουρδελοκατσικο του 2009 ? το πως ανεβαινε την lukey heights ? τα powerslidings πανω στα κερμπ στην 3 το 2012 με 240+ χλμ ? και πολλα αλλα!
Βλεπω τους χρονους του Λορενθο και προσπαθω να συμπερανω το που θα γυρνουσε ο στονερ!:D

Παντως και απο τα βιντεο φαινεται οτι ο τρελος τον Ντουκο τον γυρναγε πιο στρωτα(drift) απτο χοντα πουειχε μετα.
Μονο για την συγκεκριμενη στροφη στο australia λεω.

Tα νριφτ του εκπληκτικού McCoy δεν είχαν καμία σχέση με τα ντριφτ του Stoner. Μιλάμε για εντελώς άλλο πράγμα.

Ασφαλώς. Όπως σχέση δεν μπορούν να έχουν του Χέιντεν του Ρόσι του Ζιμπερνό του Κόρσερ του Μπόστρομ του Κίλι κλπ κλπ.
Ο στόνερ ντριφτάριζε σε κλίσεις που οι άλλοι ούτε να ονειρευτούν δεν μπόρεσαν. Δεν έβγαινε ντριφτάροντας, οδηγούσε υπερβολικά πολύ με το γκάζι ξεκινόντας το ντριφτάρισμα χρόνια νωρίτερα μέσα στη στροφή

Νικολάκη άσε το τρολάρισμα ρε μαν... :wave2: Για να ντριφτάρει κάποιος μειώνει τα βοηθήματα. Ο τρελός όπου το επέτρεπαν οι συνθήκες τα είχε σχεδόν off.
Τα θέματα του McCoy είχαν να κάνουν με το σύνολο της μοτό αλλά και με τα αρχαϊκά (συγκριτικά) βοηθήματα που είχε στη διάθεσή του

Κτηνε δεν θα ξαναλεμε τα ιδια το μοναδικο Ducati που ξηριζε ηταν του τρελου
ολοι οι αλλοι με Ducati οταν βλεπανε γυρολογια και ποσο θερμοκρασια ανεβαζε το πισω λαστιχο βγαζαν σπυρια ο Ελιας πχ τοτε .
Γιατι απετυχε οποιοσδηποτε αλλος να το γυρισει γρηγορα και να κερδισει αγωνα ? μπειλυς που κερδισε εναν αγωνα ?
Τωρα αρχισε να κανει κινησεις που μπορει να ερθει κοντα στα γυρολογια της χοντα /γιαμαχα
ΚΑΙ ΟΤΑΝ θα γυριζει ανταγωνιστηκα χωρις λαστιχα πιο μαλακα η παραπανω καυσιμο η της γνωσεις του τρελου τοτε θα δουμε (οσοι εχουμε Ducati)και ασπρη μερα στα μοτο τζιπι :wave2:

Τα χρησιμοποιούσε λιγότερο είναι αλήθεια Οφ και σχεδόν Οφ δεν τα έβγαλε ποτέ κανένας
γιατί απλά δεν βγαίνουν. (κι αν στα βγάλει η Χόντα δεν θα χαρείς για πολύ τη γλυκιά ζωή,
Ρώτα και το Πετρογκαζάκι που κάτι ξέρει σχετικά)

Τα ίδια έλεγαν και για το Ρόσσι όταν κέρδιζε, τα ίδια άρχισαν να λένε και για τον Μάρκεζ
(μέχρι που κάποιος τους έκραξε και ευτυχώς το έκοψαν)
