Μια νέα τροπή φαίνεται να παίρνει η υπόθεση περί του πιθανού νέου ιδιοκτήτη της Ducati, αφού σύμφωνα με πηγές από την Ινδία, ο κολοσσός Bajaj φαίνεται να εκφράζει ενδιαφέρον!



H Ducati, αν και ακόμη βρίσκεται υπό την ομπρέλα του ομίλου Volkswagen, είναι γνωστό ότι έχει τεθεί προς πώληση και αρκετά ονόματα ακούγονται ως οι επόμενοι ιδιοκτήτες της. Τώρα όμως μαθαίνουμε, εξ Ανατολάς, ότι ένας παγκόσμιος κολοσσός ενδιαφέρεται να την αγοράσει και αυτός δεν είναι άλλος από την Bajaj!

Οι φήμες ξεκίνησαν όταν ο Rajiv Bajaj, πρόεδρος της εταιρείας, ανακοίνωσε σε συνάντηση με τους μετόχους ότι «είναι πολύ κοντά σε μια συμφωνία, η οποία θα ανακοινωθεί σε μία ή δύο βδομάδες», χωρίς να αποκαλύπτει περισσότερα.

Το ότι η Bajaj είχε γενικότερα πρόθεση να εξετάσει την αγορά της Ducati, ήταν γνωστό εδώ και τουλάχιστον ένα μήνα περίπου, ωστόσο τώρα, οι ανακοινώσεις αυτές του προέδρου της δείχνουν κατευθείαν στην πιθανότητα, η συμφωνία να έχει ολοκληρωθεί. Μάλιστα, μιλώντας για το νέο deal, ο πρόεδρος Bajaj εμφανίστηκε φιλόδοξος λέγοντας: «Αν συμβεί, θα ανοίξει τεράστιες δυνατότητες διότι είναι μια μάρκα με format που επιτρέπει μεγάλη επιτυχία. Μπορούμε να φτάσουμε ακόμη και το 1 εκατομμύριο μοτοσυκλέτες το χρόνο...»

Οι γνώστες του χώρου είναι βέβαιοι ότι, αν η Bajaj αγοράσει την Ducati, δεν θα είναι καθόλου απίθανο να δούμε άμεσα, μοτοσυκλέτες Ducati με κυβισμό 125, 200 και 390 κυβικών, στα πρότυπα των μικρότερων μοντέλων της ΚΤΜ!

Η Αστυνομία συνέλαβε πέντε άτομα, μεταξύ των οποίων τα δύο αρχηγικά μέλη, ηλικίας 52 και 48 ετών, ενώ ένα ακόμη μέλος έχει ταυτοποιηθεί και αναζητείται. Ανάμεσα στους συλληφθέντες είναι ένας 32χρονος επαγγελματίας αθλητής αγώνων ταχύτητας, με διακρίσεις στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Ο 48χρονος, ο οποίος φέρεται ως αρχηγός είχε κατηγορηθεί στο παρελθόν για ανθρωποκτονία.

Casey Stoner tests Ducati Panigale V4


Casey Stoner has been testing Ducati’s new road-going V4 superbike and, judging by MCN’s exclusive images, he’s been enjoying it... a lot! The ex-MotoGP champion refuses to make a racing return, but has been a regular Ducati MotoGP tester ands eemed happy to thrash the new V4 in a secret test at Valenica recently.

The pictures suggest that he’s enjoying Ducati’s revolutionary machine, although it’s impossible to tell whether the dramatic skills on show are all his own, or if he’s putting the next-generation electronics package through its paces. Either way, the rumour mill is unequivocal that the new V4 will have a completely new electronics system compared to the outgoing V-twin’s, and that it’s likely to allow more aggressive riding than ever before.

It’s believed that there have been big steps forward in terms of the package works under both acceleration and braking. MCN understands that the new Stradale engine has been used at almost every GP development test for the last 12 months alongside the racebike, and that the road bike team has been working in tandem with the Corse race division on the new V4. This really is promised to be a street legal, productionised GP engine.

While Casey Stoner won’t comment on his role in the development of the new model, our mole at Valencia – where Stoner spent two days riding the GP bike and the street bike back-to-back – reports that his feedback was very positive about the new engine, suggesting that it is ‘really strong’ and very similar to the MotoGP bike in terms of character, albeit with less power, and stronger mid range drive.

It apparently reminded him a lot of the V-twin it replaces, while saying that the bike itself is dramatically easier to ride. Further overheard feedback praised its cornering manners, claiming that it was easy to control its line in corners on both an open and closed throttle, which is thanks to a combination of the all-new chassis, and that updated electronics package.

Further bike details remain guarded at this stage, but Ducati have not denied that there will be two versions of the V4 in 2018, comprising a base model Panigale V4, and the Panigale V4 S seen here that boasts all the usual S upgrades.

Barring further leaks, we’ll have the full story in early November.

Jonathan Rea again turned heads as the final day of the joint MotoGP and World Superbike test in Jerez concluded with the fourth quickest time of the week.

Only Andrea Dovizioso, Cal Crutchlow and Jorge Lorenzo lapped quicker than Rea’s time of 1’37.986 Rea clocked using a super-sticky Pirelli qualifying tyre this morning.

Even more impressive is that Rea’s time is almost a full second quicker than the time Marco Melandri recorded on his way to pole at the Jerez World Superbike race in September.

Andrea Iannone was second quickest on the final day, just 0.044 behind the reigning three-time World Superbike champion ahead of the KTM of Pol Espargaro in third.

BSB: GP2 prototype 600 class introduced for 2018
British Superbike bosses have announced the introduction of a new prototype category for 2018 to race alongside the British Supersport series.

Following two years of research and evaluation, including the introduction of several Moto2-inspired machines in the Supersport class this season, series bosses MSVR have announced the addition of the new class as they look to preserve the future of the middleweight class with manufacturers moving away from production 600 machines.

The new category will allow for current Honda-powered Moto2 machinery, that has previously been used in World or European championships, as well as new independent constructor projects utilising any 600cc four cylinder or 675cc three cylinder engines in a similar specification to Superstock 600.

British Supersport and GP2 will race side by side but be separately classified, although there will also be an overall championship to establish who is the ‘best of the best’.

“This is a critical point for this racing category,” explains BSB boss Stuart Higgs. “We have been concerned for some time that certain manufacturers have ceased producing 600cc sports bikes, which directly affects the sustainability of the Supersport class.

“The integration of independently constructed bikes with a racing chassis and a standard engine has proven to be equitable with the Supersport technical level of a standard chassis and a tuned engine.

“At World Championship level they are on the cusp of a migration to a new generation of Moto2 machines and engines which will allow the flow of previously unavailable equipment into the marketplace. This coupled with a resurgence in interest from independent engineering companies keen to develop bespoke racing hardware makes this the ideal time to refresh this highly important category of racing.

Jonathan Rea Ends 2017 On A High


Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki Racing Team completed the final winter test of the 2017 calendar year today at Jerez in Spain. Testing alongside fellow WorldSBK riders and some of the top MotoGP competitors, Rea ended the week long test by setting the fastest time on track on the final day.



Riding the Ninja ZX-10RR under the 2018 technical regulations, that will restrict the engine to a 14,100 rpm rev limit, Jonathan managed to set a personal best lap time of 1’37.986 using a new Pirelli qualifying tyre, a full second under the current WorldSBK best lap time.



Jonathan rode for three days in all; Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He went back to the UK to collect his Member of the British Empire award (MBE) on Tuesday. He suffered a very fast fall on Wednesday but went out on track soon after on his spare bike to go just as fast as he had before.



With track action now completed for 2017, Jonathan will head to Japan and Thailand for activities with Kawasaki in the coming weeks before finally having a long term break over winter.

Testing will recommence at Jerez once more on 23rd and 24th Janaury 2018.



Jonathan Rea, stated: “This test is really important for us and it is always held at a good time of year. The weather has been consistent so we have been really lucky. There is a lot of rubber down on the track so we were able to evaluate all the components we had to test and we ticked everything in the box. We had to confirm chassis components and a swingarm, and we worked a lot with Showa suspension on Wednesday. When we had everything boxed off we were able to test some new tyres from Pirelli. We also used this test to try out a qualifying tyre and to see our true potential over one lap. I was surprised to be so fast and go into the 1’37s. Good results do not just happen; it has been a lot of hard work. I am very proud of the team as they understood the regulation changes. We were able to hit the ground running when we came here on Monday.

Marc VDS MotoGP team principal Michael Bartholemy has blamed a lack of “support” from Honda for his outfit losing Jack Miller for 2018.


“Then when another Honda team [LCR] had financial problems we took even over a second rider [Miller], that was even a bigger challenge for us.

“And then when you see that you are a little bit treated like the fifth wheel on the car, it's normal that, human-wise, you feel a little bit disappointed.

“But the positive point is that there are three manufacturers which like our team:D, they like the programme that we have.

“So let's see what will bring next year, May-June, and I am open to talk to all four of them – including Honda, for sure – and I think that the person that shows the biggest interest in our activity should be the person that we go with.”

Συγκεκριμένα, αφήνει αιχμές για τον Jorge Lorenzo: «Ο Lorenzo είναι τόσο δυνατός οδηγός με την μοτοσυκλέτα του όσο αδύναμος είναι στο θέμα της επικοινωνίας. Όταν χρειάζεται να μιλήσει και ανοίγει το στόμα του, τις περισσότερες φορές είναι λάθος», είπε σε συνέντευξη του στους Ιταλούς συναδέλφους στο Moto.it.

Ο Suppo συνεχίζει να σχολιάζει τον Lorenzo, ο οποίος ήταν ο αστέρας που έφερε η Ducati για να κερδίσει το παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα, αν και στο τέλος ήταν ο Andrea Dovizioso, ο οποίος σχεδόν το πέτυχε. «Ο Lorenzo ήρθε στη Ducati ως ο σωτήρας της χώρας … και αυτός που σχεδόν πήρε τον τίτλο για την ομάδα, ήταν ο οδηγός στον οποίο δεν είχαν ξοδέψει χρήματα. Για τον Marc Márquez, ο Livio Suppo πιστεύει ότι θα συνεχίσει στη Honda: «Είναι πιο εύκολο να μείνει στην Honda. MotoGP warned six-way rider market salary war could erupt for 2019


Yamaha team boss Lin Jarvis says MotoGP's six manufacturers must take action to ensure that a spending war does not break out between them in future.

All 12 of the factory riders in the premier class will be out of contract at the end of 2018, with deals covering '19 and beyond expected to be signed in the opening part of the year.

The arrival of KTM for the 2017 campaign alongside Suzuki, Aprilia, Yamaha, Honda and Ducati has bumped the number of factory teams involved in the championship up to six - having been as low as three in '14.

Yamaha boss Jarvis believes the added number of manufacturers will make the rider market "quite hot", and says all of the factories need to work together to stop things getting "out of control".

"It's a concern for all six manufacturers," Jarvis said.

"In the past, we had maybe three lead manufacturers, then everybody needs to finally achieve success, [and to do that] you need to secure a top rider to extract the maximum performance from your project.

"If there are three people bidding for the pool of riders, it's different to if there are six people bidding.

"So I think it's up to us collectively somehow - and it's not easy, because we're all competitive - keep the rider market under some control and some sense.

"I definitely see the rider market could be quite hot in the future."

KTM doesn't want "superstar"
The rapid progress of Red Bull-backed KTM in its first season has prompted speculation it could be looking to recruit a top rider for 2019.

But KTM head of motorsport Pit Beirer insists his team is not looking to sign a "superstar", instead wanting to focus on its young talent pool - which stretches across Moto2, Moto3 and the Red Bull Rookies Cup.

"We are not looking now at getting a superstar from somewhere," he said.

"We are working on our own rider development programme, especially because six manufacturers are looking for riders it's important to give young riders a chance and build up new future stars.

"We have been doing our work in this paddock many years to bring up new riders; let's hope there is also one ready for us in the future."
