Plenty of off track action to keep fans entertained at #GermanWorldSBK

Right around the corner, excitement for the Prosecco DOC German Round is swiftly gaining momentum and there are plenty of activities on offer for fans to make even more of their experience. Not only will crowds be able to experience the jam packed Paddock Show, there will be the fan zone, SBK Village and live music on offer.

As always the famous Paddock Show will be offerings fans with exclusive opportunities to hear from and meet their MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heroes. Featuring the all new SuperShow on Saturday, all three days are action packed for the German crowds. Friday kicks off with the MOTUL race chat, team manager’s chat show and the amazing opening show. Saturday features fan competitions before the SuperShow and autograph sessions kick off at 16.15, taking you through all the day’s action. Sunday provides the opportunity to meet the up and coming stars from WorldSSP300 and STK1000, before the race shows concludes the weekend at 16.00h.

Want to continue to have the adrenaline pumping once on track actions finishes? Head over to the stage behind the main grandstand on Friday and Saturday for some amazing entertainment. From 20.00 on Friday Rockvalley will entertain the fans ahead of an after hour DJ set at 23.00 into the early hours. If Friday’s action isn’t enough Saturday sees the party continue, with Queen II on stage from 20.00 before another afterhours DJ set takes place to conclude the party ahead of the main events on Sunday. With camping on site – situated behind the main grandstand - it’s the perfect location to get involved with the party.

Making its return to the Lausitzring circuit, fans are treated to the SBK Village from Friday to Sunday. Not only is the chance to buy merchandise to support your favourite riders on offer, you can drool over the latest models of your favourite bikes in the exhibitions, on top of motorbike test drives on offer. With activities for all the family, it will make the time with no bikes on track fly by.

Keeping fans entertained in the paddock, the paddock Fan Zone will be open from Saturday to Sunday featuring a MOTUL virtual reality booth, Shad and Acerbis photo shooting and your chance to buy some merchandise to help remember an unforgettable weekend. Fans will also find a motorbike stunt show to feed their appetite for bikes all day long, throughout Saturday and Sunday.

When WorldSBK bikes aren’t stealing your attention on track, don’t miss out on any of the amazing entertainment track side to make the #GermanWorldSBK one to remember. On track action begins on 18th August – 20th August, as WorldSBK returns from the summer break.

How have manufacturers performed at the Lausitzring

Refresh your memory of WorldSBK races in Germany

Last year Aprilia recorded their only Lausitzring podium with Alex De Angelis (IODARacing), 2nd in Race 2.

BMW have only raced last year at the Lausitzring, and their best results were secured by Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team) in Race 1 (4th) and Josh Brookes (Milwaukee BMW) in Race 2 (7th).

Ducati is the most successful manufacturer at the Lausitzring with six wins, four of which from one rider: Troy Bayliss. Last year they won with Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Duacti) in Race 1. Ducati have recorded 12 podium placements here, at least one for each Lausitzring weekend.

Honda is second only to Ducati for the amount of Lausitzring wins, with three recorded with three different riders in three different years: Colin Edwards in 2001, Chris Vermeulen in 2005 and James Toseland in 2006. Last year they were able to climb on the podium in Race 1 with Nicky Hayden (3rd).

Kawasaki have won once around Lausitzring: which was last year in Race 2 with Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team). Their only other podium was Sykes in Race 1, which he secured a second position. Kawasaki recorded a 1-2 in qualifying here in 2007 with Fonsi Nieto and Regis Laconi, their only pole here.

Leon Camier secured a fifth and fourth for MV Agusta last year at the Lausitzring. The fourth place is the best result for MV Agusta in the WorldSBK championship, all scored last season in the first races at Assen and Donington and in Race 2 at Magny Cours.

Yamaha last won here ten years ago in Race 1 with Noriyuki Haga, and have recorded a total of seven podium finishes at the Lausitzring. Last year their best result was scored by Sylvain Guintoli in Race 2 in fifth.

Tom Sykes has held on to top spot after Friday’s free practice sessions despite missing over half of the FP2 track time due to an off, while a red flag stoppage for oil followed by a thundery rain shower stagnated the afternoon session.

The Kawasaki Racing Team rider improved his FP1 timesheet-topper with a 1m 37.172s to go further under the lap record and pull out a third of a second on team-mate Jonathan Rea. But 22 minutes into FP2 Sykes tipped off at turn four which prematurely ended his day.

However, Sykes missed almost none of the remaining dry track time as a red flag was forced three minutes after his off when the Pata Yamaha of Alex Lowes suffered engine failure and dropped oil on track.

Stefan Bradl on the Red Bull Honda was the unlucky rider to trip up on the oil from Lowes’s YZF-R1 with his bike summersaulting into a damaging off while the German rider looked aggrieved by the lack of yellow flags from the marshals.

Just as the track marshals cleared up the oil spill, a heavy rain shower soaked the Lausitzring which suspended the restart, and denied riders any further opportunities to improve on their outright fastest lap times - while the total delay notched up to 90 minutes.

With the truncated dry running time it left Sykes on top from Rea with Chaz Davies less than three-hundredths of a second further back in third on the Aruba.it Racing Ducati.

Lorenzo Savadori retained fourth place on the Milwaukee Aprilia thanks to his FP1 fastest lap but Marco Melandri jumped up to fifth on the combined times as one of just four riders to be able to improve their best lap times in the afternoon session. That shuffled Eugene Laverty down to sixth for Milwaukee Aprilia and wildcarding Markus Reiterberger to seventh on the Van Zon Remeha BMW.

With Leon Camier (MV Agusta), Jordi Torres (Althea BMW) and Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) rounding out the top ten they secured the instant qualification into Superpole two as the second Pata Yamaha of Michael van der Mark was the unlucky 11th rider to miss out.

Παλια δεν ηταν ετσι ....τωρα τι αλλαξε?? .Αμα δεις αγωνες 90s ειναι σε πολλες πιστες τιγκα που λεμε.
Και μου φανηκε παραξενο για Γερμανια γιατι εχει πολυ κοσμο που ασχολειται με το αθλημα.

Ίσως επειδή είναι περίοδος διακοπών και διαθέτουν τον χρόνο τους αλλού.

Δεν ξέρω αν είναι θέμα προώθησης του WSBK...το έχουνε χαντακώσει υπέρ του MotoGP...αλλά και πάλι δεν δικαιολογείται... Αν και τα superbikes έχουνε πάρει τα πάνω τους με τα σύγχρονα 1000άρια...από άποψη των καταναλωτών...οι αγώνες όμως...έχουνε "ξερές" κερκίδες. Και το Γερμανικό superbikes δεν έχει κόσμο στις κερκίδες...και το Ισπανικό δεν έχει πλέον 1000άρια να τρέχουνε. Είναι περίεργη η κατάσταση.
