Yamaha YZF-R7 or Ninja 650

Hello everyone, I am planning to upgrade to the middleweight segment and the new Yamaha R7 and Kawasaki Ninja 650 are my two choice. I wish to use it for my daily commutes and for touring. I really like the design of the new R7 but it is is a little pricer, is it worth getting over the Ninja 650.

Hello Joana the 3th hundred 33rd!
If you can squeeze out the tiniest bit of your budget for the R7, I'd say go for it!
Both Yamaha and Kawasaki have strong presence in the US, thus I believe stealerships competition will get you good after-sales in any case you need them.

Yamaha CP2 engine, is proven to be reliable and very friendly, with a nice power curve AND tuning potential. It uses a slipper clutch!
Both 650R and R7 use a steel frame, but the Yamaha is lighter!
Radial master cylinder and brake calipers for the R7, inverted more rigid forks too... on paper, you get better brake and feel performance out of it, that's a big advantage on spirited riding and occasional track-days!

For me, it does worth the extra money.

In any case, get your ass on both seats, ride them, put the above into consideration and pick what suits most to your needs.
Start with the 650 and then switch on R7, pricier, but in this case the extra cost, is a refund of a step up in performance.

A lot of R7 reviews (https://www.mototechindia.com/yamaha-yzf-r7/) claim that the R7 is also great on the track, I hope it's not as aggressive as the R6. I will test ride it as soon as it arrives near my Yamaha dealership.
