“I’ve been training since Qatar to get back to full strength and I hope my right hand should be 100 per cent at Jerez. It’s a very important race for me and I really enjoy it. What I like most about racing at Jerez is the huge crowd and the great atmosphere, it’s always very special to race there because you can really feel the crowd, especially through the Nieto and Peluqui corners where the fans are really close. There’s a lot of commotion, you can see everyone and that’s great. But the big crowd does have its negative side & ndash; I can’t get around the paddock easily, which can make it difficult to do my job. I like everything about the circuit, though maybe the Sito Pons corner onto the back straight is the most beautiful corner. The last part of the circuit is the most important when you’re chasing good lap times – the two fast right-hand curves approaching the end of the lap are crucial. The track is quite safe, though it could be improved in a few areas. There are a few bumps too, though not too many, and the tarmac offers good grip. Top speed doesn’t matter too much at Jerez, what you need is an engine that looks after the tyres. But above all you need a very well balanced chassis that allows you to brake hard and tackle both fast and slow corners. It’s a circuit that requires quite an aggressive riding style.”

“Qatar wasn’t a great weekend for us but we’ll be working hard to move on from that at Jerez. Our bike should work good at Jerez and in the past the Michelin tyres have worked really good there. I think it’s a cool track and it’s not a top-speed track. I like tracks where you’ve got to put sections together, and Jerez all flows together pretty good. The atmosphere is pretty cool – you come into the stadium section [the Nieto and Peluqui turns] on Sunday morning and it’s wild. Nowadays you can design a racetrack on the computer, you can do whatever you want – make that, generate this, design that – you can use every trick in the book, bu t if the place don’t have that atmosphere, money can’t buy that. Even if a racetrack gives tickets away you can’t guarantee the atmosphere you get at Jerez – there’s explosions going off, it just wild and that’s what makes it so good. From a riding point of view you definitely need edge grip for all the long corners and you need a bike that steers good in those long corners. It’s a good tracks and one of my favourites. But it’s the atmosphere that really makes it – if you haven’t been there you need to go.

“Obviously Qatar didn’t turn out quite as we hoped but we took away a lot of positives from the weekend. We saw how competitive both our bike and the Bridgestone tyres are, and this is very exciting for the season ahead. We did some excellent work at the Jerez test in February and I was able to have great fun riding the bike, so now I’m really looking forward to going to race there. It’s a great track to ride on, it’s quite technical and it usually seems to suit our bike quite well. We know we have a big job facing us, especially after the result of Qatar, so we will be aiming to make the most of the few hours of practice time that we have available to us to refine our package. Jerez is a great track for me and I have had some wonderful races there in the past, including a brilliant win last year, and I always enjoy racing there a lot. It will be nice to return to a ‘normal’ racing schedule, even if I enjoyed the night racing in Qatar, and I have always felt very at home racing in Spain. Most importantly, there’s always a fantastic atmosphere in Jerez with the fans coming from all over Spain; it’s like one big crazy party!”

Jorge Lorenzo - “IN THE SPOTLIGHT”

“Qatar was unbelievable and something I will remember forever. I’ve felt great since and now I’m really excited about the next one; I never expected to be going into only my second MotoGP race in such a great position in the classification! However I know it will be hard work for me again in Jerez and it’s still just my second race on the M1. I will have to work and focus very hard in practice if I want to be able to repeat the Qatar experience. In November at the test I had some difficulties but in February I did one of my best laps of the whole winter, despite the bad weather, and I hope I can be even faster this time. Jerez for me last year was a fantastic race, I took pole position and the victory and I also won in 2006 so I have some great memories of racing here. Jerez is undoubtedly a special track for me; it’s my home, I know it very well and it’s the track where I rode in my very first GP in 2002. It’s also the first place I ever planted my ‘Lorenzo’s Land’ flag! It will always be in my heart. It’s quite a technical track and I like this about it. In Jerez a rider can win the race in the corners and it’s not always the most important thing to have the fastest bike. I feel quite different going to race in Spain now compared to last year when I was in 250. Now I am at the top and I feel very much in the spotlight. Qatar changed everything for me and now I hope that I can continue in the same way in front of my home fans!”

Lorenzo leads from Rossi in practice 2


Jorge Lorenzo at JerezFiat Yamaha teammates Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi finished a quarter of a second clear of the rest of the field in today's second MotoGP practice session at Jerez.

Lorenzo pinched the quickest time from Rossi by just 0.043 seconds in the last five minutes of practice.

Colin Edwards, fastest in the morning, was third, with Nicky Hayden, who was fastest for much of the session, the top non-Yamaha, 0.352 seconds adrift in fourth just ahead of his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa.

Championship leader Casey Stoner was only sixth fastest and more than half a second off the pace of Lorenzo and Rossi.

Andrea Dovizioso was seventh, with Briton's James Toseland eighth after a crash at turn three mid way through the session. Loris Capirossi and Alex De Angelis completed the top 10.

Casey Stoner at JerezMotoGP world champion Casey Stoner says his Ducati team are struggling to get their bike set up properly after the Australian was unable to match the pace of the leading contenders in practice at Jerez.

"We knew before we started that this isn't the best circuit for us and we struggled from the first session this morning to find the ideal setting," said Stoner, who was sixth quickest.

"During the first practice we were struggling a lot getting the bike to enter the corner under heavy braking, which we finally fixed this afternoon, but then we started to get a lot more problems in the rear - it was pumping and moving around a lot.

"We went forwards in one area and backwards in another so we need to sort both things out and come up with a new game plan tomorrow.

"We'll concentrate on the front setting first because that was giving us the most problems and then we'll try to fix the rear after that.

"We really don't know what happened with the crash. There was no reason for it. The front's been a little bit nervous all day but not terrible and I just tipped it into the corner, it started to go and there was no way I could save it," added the Australian, who won the season-opening race in Qatar.

Stoner has never finished in the top three at Jerez before.

"We have a good base setting after the test here and the first race and, although of course we have more work to do, I think that we're on the right track. My team is working well, the bike and the Michelin tyres also are very good and I feel that there is great energy, excitement and motivation in our garage.

"After today I think we're in good shape for the weekend and my hope is that we will be able to fight at the front. The weather today was fantastic and I really hope this continues, for the fans and for us."

φαβορί, κατ' εμέ, για τον αγώνα είναι ο Lorenzo, τα yamaha άλλωστε πάνε τρένο και λογικά θα πάνε όλα καλά. Το γυρολόγιό του με λάστιχα αγώνα είναι μακράν το καλύτερο.

τα ducati, απ' την άλλη, τελευταία και μόνο ο stoner κράτησε τα προσχήματα. Με λάστιχα αγώνα είναι 7/10 πίσω από τον lorenzo και μόνο αν μπορέσει ο stoner να βρει σετάρισμα θα μπορέσει να ελπίζει.

θα δούμε βέβαια, αλλά φαίνεται ότι σε μερικές πίστες τα ducati δεν ταιριάζουν (όπως και πέρσι άλλωστε) ενώ μέχρι τώρα τα michelin δείχνουν να είναι πιο ανταγωνιστικά.

Προσωπικά πέρα της προσωπική μου "ανντιπάθειας" για τον Ρόσι δεν πιστεύω ότι μπορεί να πάρει πρωτάθλημα φέτος. Και εφόσον δεν πάρει φέτος νομίζω πως έχει τελειώσει το στόρι. :D Όμως αυτά είναι και λίγο εικασίες. Το σημαντικό είναι να υπάρχει ανταγωνισμός! Αυτό είναι το σημαντικό για να βλέπουμε εμείς θέαμα και να χαιρόμαστε.
Κατά τα άλλα περιμένω πολλά από τον Toseland τον θεωρώ πολύ καλό οδηγό και κατά τα άλλα... ναι όπως έγραψε και κάποιος εδώ πολύ του ήταν του δόκτορα η δεύτερη θέση! :)
