This is the most original surviving example of Wooler's ambitious luxury shaft-drive tourer, looking unlike any other British motorcycle of the Fifties. The tidy all-alloy power unit's cylinders are opposed in pairs either side on a longitudinal crankshaft, with two carburettors feeding them from above and exhausts exiting from below. The gearbox, built in unit with the engine, transmits drive to the rear wheel via bevel gears in the rear hub. As on previous Woolers, the fuel tank unit continues forward of the steering stem where it forms a headlamp nacelle.
Wooler did not have the money needed to make a viable commercial product and the marque disappeared after founder John Wooler died in 1956. There are probably only four complete Wooler flat fours in existence.
