-What should you do when you receive an email from eBay that asks for personal information?
Open a new web browser and type in www.ebay.com, to check My Messages or forward the message to spoof@ebay.com
Every email from eBay about your account or asking for personal information will also be in My Messages. If you get an email from eBay about your account or asking for personal information and it’s not in My Messages, it’s probably fake and you should delete it.
If you’re still not sure about the legitimacy of an email, you can also forward the email to spoof@ebay.com, and we’ll get back to you within a few minutes. Alerting us to new Phishing scams also helps us protect other eBay members since we can update spoof@ebay.com and the eBay Toolbar to quickly respond to reports about that scam.
- The eBay Toolbar helps protect you from identity theft.
The eBay Toolbar with Account Guard will protect you from going to known eBay or PayPal Phishing websites. If you click a link in an email that takes you to a known Phishing website, eBay Toolbar will give you a warning message that you’re about to enter a Phishing site. It will then ask you if you want to continue to the site, close the browser, or report the site to eBay.
