A family sleeps inside the underground parking lot of a mall near the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold (Hezbollah requested that we not reveal the name of the mall). More than 1/8 of Lebanon's population have had to flee their homes because of constant airstrikes by the Israelis throughout the country.

Relatives of the victims of the July 30 Israeli air strike on a house in Qana, hold pictures of their loved ones as they participate in a mass funeral procession. The air strike killed 29 Lebanese, mostly women and children, but also 4 Hezbollah fighters.

Shell shocked children await evacuation from the village of Aitaroun. A 48-hour pause of the Israeli air assault has enabled aid to finally reach villages in the south after three weeks of fighting. Living conditions have been traumatic for the civilian population with no humanitarian assistance due to the Israeli targeting of vehicles traveling in the area.

An elder Afghan refugee from Erat, Afghanistan, leaves in the Ghoussabad neighborhood of Quetta, Pakistan. Part of the group of six Afghan families, they were told by the Talibans to leave their home if they wanted to be safe, following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. She walked across the border through Shaman in Balouchistan and reached Quetta, Pakistan, on Sept. 20th. 2001.
