This is CB750 sandcast VIN frame number 446 and engine number 473. It is believed to be the best condition low VIN unrestored original sandcast in existence and experts haven't seen another one like it in over 10 years. I bought it with the intent of keeping but soon realized this is something that should go to a prominent collector or museum. This listing is to spread the word about the bike being available for a collection or museum and to get in touch with buyers. I have spoken on the phone with Jay Leno himself about the bike and he was interested. The bike is fully documented and the history from brand new is known. It starts instantly, runs, drives, stops, and shifts phenominally and has absolutely no issues whatsoever. All electronics work including the turn signals, high/low beam, brake light, etc.
It was bought brand new in 1969 by John Nave. He was a childhood best friend of James Dean (the famous movie star) and I have a picture of him with James Dean in the 8th grade school yearbook. It remained in John Naves collection and was stored in James Dean's cousins classic car collection amongst million dollar cars (photos available) until in 1999 it was sold to the best friend of John Nave (the fellow who I bought it from). It remained in heated/air conditioned storage hidden from the public amongst this fellows classic cars in Livonia, MI until I purchased it. When I first saw pictures of it I knew that it was something special and after doing some research and subsequently viewing it it turned out to be even more special. Every single thing was original and immaculate. I knew that it was a once in a life time opportunity to own it and I purchased it.
The pictures tell the whole story about the bike and the condition it is in. Something is only original once, and something that is in this condition, with this low of a VIN, with this originality, with this documentation, will never be found again. One sold for $35,000 a month ago that was a higher VIN and not as good of condition. The only item that isn't original is the airbox. The original one was cracked due to the gas being left on and so one was shipped over from england and the cracked one replaced. I have the original one and it will be included with the sale. This bike has the 19 liter tank (extremely rare), very early "8" bolts, smooth nonbraided oil line with smooth noncrimped clamps on either end, no "off-on-off" or pointer on the kill switch, long choke arm, short petcock, low VIN type seat pan, very early rare gauges, and 10mm mirror stems.
