Gigi Dall'Igna's defection to Ducati has thrown up a number of problems, not least the final destination of Eugene Laverty and what machinery Nicky Hayden will ride in Jorge Aspar Martinez's team next season.
The smart money on the latter would be a production Honda due to Honda America's interest in the former MotoGP world champion and apparently Aspar is due to make an announcement in the very near future.
On the latter, Laverty is thought to be following his former WSBK team boss, who was mincing about in Ducati team clothing in Malaysia, and will join Pramac in 2014 on a full prototype Desmosedici instead of going to Aspar as Hayden's team-mate.
Some of this revolves around where Ben Spies will land next year, if he rides at all. There is some rumour in the MotoGP paddock that his shoulder is a lot worse than anyone is letting on and he may need a full year away from competition.
Ducati have apparently been trying to steer Spies in the direction of their World Superbike Panigale after Hayden turned down the 'opportunity'. The Bologna factory have also been courting Brits Chaz Davies and Leon Camier.
Davies' current Goldbet team will be without BMW support in 2014 but may well have an option to run a brace of S1000RRs as a privateer team or turn to Ducati as Alstare boss Francis 'Fanny' Batta is allegedly trying to get out of his two-year deal to switch to Aprilia.
With no naturally fast Italians to fill the seats (besides Davide Guigliano who will say with Althea as his team boss Genesio Bevilacqua is also his personal manager) two Brits in an Italian team isn't as far-fetched as you would think.
Camier's current Fixi Suzuki team, according to Laverty, are keeping a space open for him should the MotoGP deals fail to come off - which is pretty unlikely. Team manager Paul Denning has a long association with ex-GP man John Hopkins who is looking for a way back, so he could fill a seat or find a space in the British Superbike paddock…
Seat-swapping in BSB always begins late on and this year is no exception. Alex Lowes' much rumoured but not officially confirmed jump to Paul Bird's MotoGP outfit leaves two spaces at Samsung Honda to fill as there is now no chance of Ryuichi Kiyonari remaining for another year.
Stuart Easton is confirmed at the chicken magnate's Kawasaki team and Bird has said reigning champion Shane Byrne will also be back but Byrne has been active on Twitter busy telling the world he hasn't actually signed a piece of paper.
Former champion Tommy Hill looks set for a return as a team manager but he isn't, as yet, in a position to talk about riders, sponsors or machinery.

Suzuki to participate in Sepang winter tests in 2014MCN
Suzuki will ramp up its preparations for a 2015 MotoGP return by attending the first two major winter test sessions ahead of next season in Sepang.
The Japanese factory will kick off an intensive 2014 testing schedule at the Malaysian venue on February 4 and return to the second three-day Sepang session, which commences on February 26.
Suzuki’s commitment to pitching its new 1000cc contender against the likes of Honda, Yamaha and Ducati is to ensure the GSV-R 800cc replacement is immediately competitive when thrust into competition in 18 months time.
Suzuki had originally planned to end its self-imposed exile in 2014. But it was back in June that the Japanese factory dropped a bombshell by suspending its return until the 2015 campaign.
Valentino Rossi’s former factory Yamaha boss, Davide Brivio, who is at the forefront of Suzuki’s MotoGP return, revealed more details of the testing plans in Japan last week and he told MCN: “We are committed to doing the two Sepang tests early next year and then we are planning to do several tests after the races on Monday like we have done this season. On one side you really understand the level when you are racing and racing is the best test you can do.
But we decided to delay for one year to stay as close as possible to the races. This project is to try and maintain a very high level without racing, so you have to guess where you are and that’s why it is important to go to Sepang because everybody will be testing in their 2014 configuration. We can understand to get some information about our level and then have another year to develop. It is better to find out the level in February rather than in August.”
Suzuki was due back on track for a three-day test at Sugo this week, but Brivio revealed the current test bike is still not running the full configuration it will be required to do so in 2015.
The current test mule is still running a 21-litre fuel tank and it will need to run 20 litres with fuel consumption a key area for Suzuki’s technical staff to get a handle on as soon as possible.
And the bike is not yet using the controlled Magneti Marelli electronics hardware that is compulsory for all bikes from 2014 onwards.
Suzuki’s bike is still using the Mitsubishi software and hardware but Brivio said: “They are working on this in Japan and by hopefully by the first Sepang test we will have Magneti Marelli on the bike.”
