Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi has described the more fuel efficient 2014 Yamaha MotoGP engine as 'a bit more rude and aggressive' and likened it to a two-stroke that is running too lean.
Rossi spent most of yesterday working with the 2014 bike which will have to run on just 20 litres of unleaded instead of this year's 21 litres which The Doctor thinks is a problem as he ran out of fuel more than once on the slowing down lap this year.
"Today we concentrate more on the new bike. It was a bit more difficult as I wasn't fast compared to yesterday but we work a lot on the new bike and try to test some new system for the engine, for a different way to save fuel, some thing worked, some thing a little bit less," said Rossi, speaking at Valencia.
"With less fuel, the bike is more difficult to ride. A lot times this year we arrive very, very much at the limit with 21, so with 20 is worse. Is like a two-stroke when it is too lean. The engine is a bit more rude, more agressive."
Rossi also tried new front-end settings in order to improve his performance under braking and corner entry as those are the areas he says the Repsol Hondas are so much better than the YZR-M1.
"We try different things for the setting, especially for use the front tyre in the right way and improve the grip in the entry where I suffer all this season. Some thing work, some thing not. It was easier to ride the bike yesterday, but I don't know why.
"At the end, the performance is not fantastic but we make an important job for try to arrive more competitive next year. All during this season, I wasn't strong enough in braking, for stop the bike and entry, so this is the target for where we have to work.
"The Hondas are able to brake a little but deeper and enter faster than us, so this is the way to fix. We have to work on the gearbox. Usually Yamaha is good with chassis."

Valencia MotoGP Test: Crutchlow adopts more cautious approach
Cal Crutchlow was less concerned with pushing for a fast lap time on the final day of the Valencia MotoGP test as he focused on familiarising himself with the factory Ducati.
The British rider adopted a more cautious approach following a spill on Tuesday and although Crutchlow was unable to find a setting that represented a big step forward, neither did he take a step backwards as Ducati concluded its testing programme in Spain.
Crutchlow, who reduced his best lap time by 0.239s for tenth place on the Wednesday timesheets, said: “Today was a day about getting to know the team better and riding the Desmosedici some more.
“I can't really say we found any particular setting that was a big advantage or a big disadvantage.
“I continue to give clear feedback and really reiterate what the other guys were saying, which is a key point that's good; I've just come off another manufacturer's motorcycle, so it's good for Ducati that my feedback matches theirs,” he added.
With changes certain to be made for the 2014 Desmosedici, being designed under the leadership of new Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall'Igna and which will debut at Sepang in February, Crutchlow saw little point in pushing for a time attack on a bike that clearly struggled throughout the 2013 season.
“We didn't need to push for a lap time. I was a little more cautious today than the other days, but overall, I think we gave Gigi and the Ducati guys something to work on over the winter. Now I look forward to the Sepang test.”
Although 1.588s from Honda pace setter Marc Marquez, Crutchlow was already a close match for Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, lapping a mere 0.156s slower than the Italian.
Just behind the Englishman was Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, who focused on testing chassis updates with the 'laboratory' bike.
Andrea Iannone was the leading Ducati rider on the Pramac machine in seventh place, 0.281s ahead of Crutchlow.
Crutchlow's former Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Bradley Smith was second fastest with new signing Pol Espargaro sixth.

H Kawasaki εχει παρει το δρομο για την επιστροφη το2014 στην open .
Αλλά η πραγματική είδηση είναι ότι το προτοτυπο είναι πλήρως κατασκευασμένο από την Kawasaki , έρχεται στην Ευρώπη για μια σειρά δοκιμών που εχει προγραμματιστεί για το τέλος του Νοεμβρίου θα πραγματοποιηθεί στη Jerez , ακόμη και με την παρουσία της Ducati test team .
Το προτοτυπο θα ανατεθεί στην Avintia , η οποία μέχρι τώρα συναρμολογούσαι τα δικά τηs με Kawasaki κινητήρα και CRT FTR σασί .
Έτσι, το νέο σπίτι του έργου του Akashi είναι κάτι νέο , εντελώς αφιερωμένο στο MotoGP , και ως εκ τούτου δεν αναφέρεται στον νικηφόρο ZX - 10R .
Η ελπίδα είναι ότι η Kawasaki θα επανέλθη , ίσως σε ένα -δύο χρόνια , στο δρόμο της Suzuki .
Μάλλον δεν θα επιστρέψει στις φορές που Kawasaki είχε δώσει εν λευκώ και απεριόριστο προϋπολογισμό για Reparto Corse , αλλά το γεγονός και μόνο ότι η ομάδα έρχεται πίσω στο πράσινο πρωτότυπο κάνει την επόμενη σεζόν ναείναι πολύ συναρπαστικη .
