Loris Capirossi led from pole to flag to win the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix for the second year in a row and for his third victory this season.
It could also have been a race that proved really important in the championship as Valentino Rossi finished second but current championship leader Nicky Hayden only managed fifth.
It means the gap for the title is down to just twelve points with only two races remaining.

Current title leader Nicky Hayden could only manage fifth whilst his nearest rival Valentino Rossi increased the pressure by finishing in second. That means the gap is cut down to just twelve points with only two races remaining.
Italian Capirossi led from pole to flag in a replica of his victory at the Motegi circuit last year.
He faced challenge for the podium top spot from both Fortuna Honda's Marco Melandri, who got a great start off the line and in the latter part of the race from his countryman Rossi. But he always looked comfortable out front and in the end took the chequered flag on his own.
Camel Yamaha's Rossi, meanwhile, knew he had to get a good points haul - especially in a race where his challenger was struggling so much. However, after passing Melandri for second, he attempted to overhaul the leader who got wind of what he was doing and increased his speed building up a nice lead. Rossi settled for being runner up.
Repsol Honda's Hayden struggled from the very beginning of the race. All the riders were held on the grid longer than usual as they waited for the lights to go out. The American then got a bad start as his front tyre lifted as he hit the power. Dropping down to eighth he never really looked like he could get up the order.
He went on to spend the majority of the race in sixth, frustrated behind local boy Shinya Nakano. Unfortunately for the crowd Nakano fell on the final lap, gifting Hayden 5th position and one more vital point.
There was something to celebrate though as his points meant Honda win the constructor's title and Repsol Honda win the team title.
So it's only the rider's championship to be decided. The gap's down to just 12 points and with 50 points still available, it looks like this year the title decider will be going right to the wire. However, both Rossi and Hayden say Estoril, the venue for the Portuguese Grand Prix in three weeks, is not their favourite circuit.

Ξύπνημα στις 7:48....τελικά, ούτε καφές, ούτε μπύρα....Πορτοκαλάδα και κανα τυροπιτάκι.....ξεκηνά ο αγώνας και ο Καπιρόσι δεν μασάει τ' αφτιά του...Απο την Πολ ποζίσιον δεν καταλαβαίνει τίποτα. ο μελάντρι λίγο πήγε να του πει κάτι αλλά μπάαααααα....ο Ρόσι παραδοσιακά δεν κάνει καλές εκκινήσεις και όταν στον 14ο γύρο πέρασε τον Μελάντρι, όλοι είπαμε "και τώρα οι δυο τους...." Καπιρόσι και Ρόσι...Α, για να μην αδικούμε τον πρωτοπόρο, ο Χέιντεν (ξέρετε ο...KFC) βουλόδερνε στην 7ο..6η θέση. Και εκεί που λέτε όλοι περιμέναμε (εγώ δηλαδή σπίτι που έβλεπα τον αγώνα....) να δούμε μάχη όπως στη Μαλαισία...."Άκυρο ψηλέ" μου είπε ο Καπιρέξ.....έβαλε το κεφάλι κάτω, δάμασε όπως πολύ καλά ξέρει το ΝΤουκατάκι του και βουρ στον πατσά. το 1.2'' έγινε 4'' με αποτέλεσμα 3 γύρους πριν απο τη καρό σημαία η σεμνή τελετή να τελειώσει. Ο Μελάντρι μόνος τρίτος δεν απειλήθηκε απο τον Ζιμπερνάου, ο οποίος ούτε που έβλεπε που είναι ο 5ος Νακάνο...Ο Νακανούλης λοιπόν ήταν σε όλο τον αγώνα μπροστά απο τον Χέιντεν...αλλά αν δε πάρεις της τελευταία στροφή, δεν τερματίζεις, σωστά;;; ο νακάνο δεν την πήρε, ο Χέιντεν΄τερμάτησε 5ος και πλέον η διαφορά του απο τον Ρόσι είναι στους 12 βαθμούς. Κάτι που σημαίνει πως αν ο Ρόσι κερδίσει στους δυο επόμενους αγώνες (Εστορίλ και Βαλένθια) στέφεται πρωταθλητής. Αν.....γιατί ο Χέιντεν είναι ακόμαπρώτος με +12....
Αυτά.....έτσι είδα τον αγώνα...και τώρα τέλος τα ξυπνήματα...νορμάλ ώρες σε Πορτογαλία και Ισπανία...

Πραγματικά ρε γαμότο μου, πολύ κολοφαρδία αυτός ο HAYDEN. Πάντως η HONDA κέρδισε ήδη το πρωτάθλημα κατασκευαστών για φέτος και η REPSOL HONDA κέρδισε των ομάδων.

Οταν πλησιαζε ο Hayden τον Nakano φοβομουν οτι ο Nakano θα παραδωθει σχετικα ευκολα, αλλα τελικα την εκανε αλλου την μαλακια...
Τελοσπαντων μακαρι να πανε ολα καλα και το πρωταθλημα να το παρει ο σωστος αναβατης στο τελος!
