Just picked up from Suzuki Hammamatsu a brand new '07 1000 prototype--stealth black, of course, for incognito testing. This bike is incredible!! It's two quantum leaps into the future. First, total re-design--more aerodynamic, that fat rear pancake of a tail is now more tapered with a functional wing for ground effects and stability at speed. Slightly more wind protection in front with wider screen and mini-winglet below. Some 15 lbs have been shaved off, mostly from the redesigned frame--all carbon fiber with multi-directional weave, eliminating those weld-induced crashes as well as ability to absorb impact and stresses from a multitude of directions. Ram air intakes have been widened and lengthened--giving a porsche-turbo look to the nose.
Engine internals are now all titanium with new capacitor-induced anti- gyroscopic mechanism to eliminate crank-drag for easier turning in. This is the new magneto hydrodynamic technology which creates the opposing force nullifing crank inertia. I'm sure we will see a lot more of that. This bike now handles like a dream--a wet dream. Power all across the board is up with a 10-15 hp increase (our trustworthy seat of the pants measurement) at 17000 rpm; and weight is down to 351 with fluids. Slipper clutch is now non-adjustable, and said to work--we didn't experience any problems.
A couple of other very spiffy innovations: electronic technology to detect and compensate for front-wheel wash-out before it happens; and an anti high-side device (EAHD) through electronic rear brake application-- eliminating wheelspin only under full throttle. So now, you can race a Kawi or a Duck in the canyons and have no fear of diving into a turn too fast , and you no longer have to get back on the gas gingerly to avoid that annoying pelt off the bike on turn exit, as highsides are all-but rendered a thing of the past. All commers are now toast.
I tried to get a picture of this baby but this stealth black has no emmisivity--it reflects no light--hence near invisible. This is good for those more patrolled sections, but not good for safety. Fortunately the black consumer model will be less severely pigmented. So, if the '05/'06 has not only raised the bar but booted it out of the stadium, the '07 has booted the whole playing field off the planet.
Well, I just wanted to give you all the heads up about what is right around the corner; and for you local hot-shots riding the 2, if something blows by you wailing like a banshee at 17000 rpm's and you don't see anything, it's more than likely Suzuki's new moto gp replica with the Kapn aboard.
