MotoGP news: Valentino Rossi gives Yamaha warning and V4 engine latest
Rossi finished fourth at the Buriram circuit last weekend.
His team-mate, Maverick Vinales, just pipped him to a podium finish in third.
However, in recent months the M1 bike has been ravaged by technical issues.
Aragon was a disaster despite Rossi performing admirably well in the circumstances.

The veteran ace rode from 17th on the grid to eighth in Aragon.
Vinales had a shocker and finished in 10th.
After Yamaha’s surprising result in Thailand, Rossi has told club bigwigs not to rest on their laurels.
“This is unfortunately a risk [that Yamaha thinks it has solved its problems], but it is a losing mentality,” he said.
So many times our engineers are happy if Maverick can make a good time in testing, they say, ‘we got it!’
“If I were a Yamaha engineer, I would analyse the results of the second part of the season and I would not be happy about one fast lap or a front row.”
Rossi claims the grip on the Buriram track surface might have helped improve the M1’s performance.
He added: “On paper this track is not a Yamaha track.
“I expected to suffer a lot more and to be for example stronger in Misano, but in Misano we struggled.
“For me, more than the layout of the track, is different the grip of the asphalt that helped us, more or less.
“If you want to be competitive you have to be strong everywhere because now Ducati and Honda are strong everywhere.
“For me, we miss something but maybe this weekend we improved, we will see in Motegi.”
Rossi demanded last month that the Japanese heavyweights consider switching to a V4 engine layout.
BT Sport pundit James Toseland isn’t convinced that’s going to be feasible though.
“He will certainly be piling the pressure on the engineers - and the research and development department in Yamaha aren’t really pulling the stops out,” Toseland told Express Sport.
Now the top two manufactures - Honda and Ducati - have V4 engines.
“But the Yamaha is still on the inline four.
“There’s talk about that, but to design a whole engine in six months…
“I think they know they need to try something drastic to get back on the pace.
“With the two top manufactures using the configuration, you’ve got to say something is right with it.
“They will have to possibly develop a V4 and get it on track to see if that can make the difference.”

WorldSBK will operate to a three-race format in 2019
The Superbike World Championship will employ a new three-race format next year, starting with the season-opener at Phillip Island.
WorldSBK has employed a two-race format since its inception in 1988, but will now add a sprint race to the mix on Sundays.
The longer races will continue to be split across Saturday and Sunday, and Superpole will still be used to set the grid for the former.
However, the sprint race will set the grid for the latter, instead of the convoluted partial reverse grid which was introduced last year.
“To bring in a third ‘sprint race’ into the WorldSBK format for 2019 is something we have been planning for a long time now, so we are delighted to see the plans coming together,” said WorldSBK Executive Director Daniel Carrera.
“We are committed to bringing exciting races to the fans year on year, and we think the addition of a sprint race will add to the WorldSBK experience.
“We are continuing to work on the final adjustments and hope to bring more details in the near future.”
WorldSBK changed format to move the first race of the weekend onto Saturday afternoons in 2016.
The partial reverse grid that came into effect in 2017 sees the top three finishers from Race 1 reversed and put back to Row 3 for the start of Race 2, with fourth through ninth elevated to first through sixth in the same order.
Full details of the new weekend format are still to be announced.
Phillip Island is set to open the 2019 season on February 22-24, while the penultimate round of the current campaign takes place at the new Circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina this weekend (October 12-14 local time).

Ο Rossi τερμάτισε τέταρτος στο κύκλωμα Buriram το προηγούμενο Σαββατοκύριακο.
Ο συμπαίκτης του, ο Maverick Vinales, τον έσπασε σε ένα τρίτο στο βάθρο.
Ωστόσο, τους τελευταίους μήνες η μοτοσικλέτα M1 έχει καταστραφεί από τεχνικά ζητήματα.

Πρόσθεσε: "Σε χαρτί αυτό το κομμάτι δεν είναι κομμάτι της Yamaha.
"Αναμένω ότι θα υποφέρουν πολύ περισσότερο και θα είναι για παράδειγμα ισχυρότεροι στο Misano, αλλά στο Misano αγωνίσαμε.
"Για μένα, περισσότερο από τη διάταξη της διαδρομής, είναι διαφορετική η λαβή της άσφαλτος που μας βοήθησε, περισσότερο ή λιγότερο.
"Αν θέλετε να είστε ανταγωνιστικοί, πρέπει να είστε ισχυροί παντού γιατί τώρα η Ducati και η Honda είναι ισχυρές παντού.
"Για μένα, χάσαμε κάτι, αλλά ίσως αυτό το Σαββατοκύριακο βελτιώσαμε, θα δούμε στο Motegi."
Ο Rossi ζήτησε τον περασμένο μήνα ότι οι Ιάπωνες βαρέων βαρών θεωρούν τη μετάβαση σε διάταξη V4 κινητήρα.
Ο τεχνικός της BT Sport James Toseland δεν είναι πεπεισμένος ότι θα είναι εφικτός όμως.

Τώρα οι δύο κορυφαίοι κατασκευαστές - Honda και Ducati - έχουν κινητήρες V4.
"Όμως, το Yamaha βρίσκεται ακόμα στο τετράγωνο.
"Υπάρχει λόγος για αυτό, αλλά για να σχεδιάσετε μια ολόκληρη μηχανή σε έξι μήνες ...
"Νομίζω ότι ξέρουν ότι πρέπει να δοκιμάσουν κάτι δραστικό για να ξαναγυρίσουν στο ρυθμό.
"Με τους δύο κορυφαίους κατασκευαστές που χρησιμοποιούν τη διαμόρφωση, πρέπει να πείτε ότι κάτι είναι σωστό με αυτό.
"Θα πρέπει να αναπτύξουν ένα V4 και να το βγάλουν σε τροχιά για να δουν αν αυτό μπορεί να κάνει τη διαφορά".
