My DL 650 Seems to Have Overly Sensitive Front Suspension
I have a DL 650 with about 1900KM. I've noticed lately I can feel unseen bumps in the pavement. To
make sure it wasn't the engine, I can feel these small bumps with the clutch in and coasting. It will
look like smooth pavement, yet I still feel a "bumpyness" in the handlebars. Increasing the rear preload
improved it slightly. Any suggestions. It's like the front suspension is too sensitive.
Your DL650, like the one I just bought, has a damper rod fork unlike the cartridge forks on the DL1000. Damper rod forks have too much high speed damping and too little low speed damping, but they are inexpensive and work pretty well. I don't like the harsh action over sharp bumps either so I ordered a set of "cartridge emulators" from Race Tech. These little wonders drop into the fork tubes after some modification to the damping rod orifices and make the damping rod fork "act" just like an adjustable cartridge fork..which means "soft" high speed damping (over sharp bumps) but "harder" low speed damping (brake dive). I have not installed them yet but will post a report when I get the job done.
