Suzuki to participate in Sepang winter tests in 2014MCN

Suzuki will ramp up its preparations for a 2015 MotoGP return by attending the first two major winter test sessions ahead of next season in Sepang.

The Japanese factory will kick off an intensive 2014 testing schedule at the Malaysian venue on February 4 and return to the second three-day Sepang session, which commences on February 26.

Suzuki’s commitment to pitching its new 1000cc contender against the likes of Honda, Yamaha and Ducati is to ensure the GSV-R 800cc replacement is immediately competitive when thrust into competition in 18 months time.

Suzuki had originally planned to end its self-imposed exile in 2014. But it was back in June that the Japanese factory dropped a bombshell by suspending its return until the 2015 campaign.

Valentino Rossi’s former factory Yamaha boss, Davide Brivio, who is at the forefront of Suzuki’s MotoGP return, revealed more details of the testing plans in Japan last week and he told MCN: “We are committed to doing the two Sepang tests early next year and then we are planning to do several tests after the races on Monday like we have done this season. On one side you really understand the level when you are racing and racing is the best test you can do.

But we decided to delay for one year to stay as close as possible to the races. This project is to try and maintain a very high level without racing, so you have to guess where you are and that’s why it is important to go to Sepang because everybody will be testing in their 2014 configuration. We can understand to get some information about our level and then have another year to develop. It is better to find out the level in February rather than in August.”

Suzuki was due back on track for a three-day test at Sugo this week, but Brivio revealed the current test bike is still not running the full configuration it will be required to do so in 2015.

The current test mule is still running a 21-litre fuel tank and it will need to run 20 litres with fuel consumption a key area for Suzuki’s technical staff to get a handle on as soon as possible.

And the bike is not yet using the controlled Magneti Marelli electronics hardware that is compulsory for all bikes from 2014 onwards.

Suzuki’s bike is still using the Mitsubishi software and hardware but Brivio said: “They are working on this in Japan and by hopefully by the first Sepang test we will have Magneti Marelli on the bike.”

Γιατί ήρθα στη Ντουκάτι? Μα για να κερδίσω τον τίτλο στα motogp, που είναι ο μοναδικός που δεν έχω. Φυσικά για να κερδίσεις πρέπει πριν να συμμετάσχεις και
η Ντουκάτι έχει τη υποδομή για κάτι τέτοιο

-Ποιά θα είναι η επόμενη κίνηση σας ?
-Η αναδιοργάνωση των υποδομών. Δυστυχώς έχουμε 2 ομάδες εντελώς ξεχωριστές. Την ομάδα της πίστας και την ομάδα της φάμπρικας. Αυτές πρέπει να συνδεθούν πιο στενά για να μπορέσουν να συνεργαστούν.

-Τι θα συμβαίνει τώρα?
Συχνά πολλά πράγματα δεν δοκιμάζονται ή δεν δοκιμάζονται με το σωστό τρόπο. Η καλλίτερη οργάνωση θα μας επιτρέψει να κάνουν το άλμα ποιότητας.

-Ναι αλλά πως ?
Θα βάλω για λίγο αυτούς που δουλεύουν στη πίστα να δουλέψουν στη φάμπρικα και ανάποδα. Το γεγονός ότι εγώ θα είμαι παρών σ όλους τους αγώνες θα βοηθήσει αλλά από μόνο του δε φτάνει.

-Ποιά ήταν η πρώτη σας εντύπωση από τη Ducati?
Βρήκα μια ομάδα πολύ υψηλού επιπέδου ικανή να πιάσει όλους τους στόχους που έχουμε βάλει δηλαδή να ξανακάνουμε τη Ντουκάτι μια ομάδα ικανή να νικήσει τόσο στα motogp όσο και στα wsbk. Πρέπει λοιπόν να μεταφέρουμε
την οργάνωση και τις τεχνικές μας γνώσεις και στις δύο ομάδες.
-Η Desmosedici τι αλλαγές θα υποστεί?
Δύσκολο να το πεις από τώρα, πρέπει να εκτιμήσουμε την κατάσταση αλλά είμαστε έτιμοι για μια εντελώς νέα μοτοσυκλέτα αν αυτό απαιτηθεί.
Στη Σεπάνγκ πάμε με μια Δ16 διαφορετική από την σημερινή και στο μεσοδιάστημα αυτό θα την έχω μελετήσει σε κάθε της λεπτομέρεια, οπότε ίσως κάνω και κάποιες αλλαγές πριν το τεστ.

-Στην περίπτωση που χρειαστεί να φτιάξετε μια εντελώς νέα μοτοσυκλέτα πόσος χρόνος θα χρειαστεί?
Δεν μπορώ να το πω από τώρα. Μιλάμε για μια νέα κατάσταση που δεν γνωρίζω ακόμα καλά. Η Ντουκάτι όμως έχει αποδείξει ότι μπορεί να φέρει στην πίστα πολύ γρήγορα νέα πρωτότυπα. Δεν είναι απλό όμως από τώρα να κάνουμε νέα σχέδια μεγάλου χρονικού ορίζοντα, αν όμως καταλάβω ότι η μοτοσικλέτα δεν μπορεί να πάει άλλο, θα το κάνουμε και αυτό.

-Σε πόσο καιρό θα καταφέρετε να κερδίσετε ξανά?
Είναι δύσκολο να κάνεις τέτοιες προβλέψεις τώρα. κανένας δε μου ζήτησε να κερδίσω εντός κάποιου χρονικού διαστήματος αλλά μερικά χρονικά όρια τα έχω βάλει εγώ ο ίδιος. Μπορώ λοιπόν να πω ότι εντός των επόμενων 2 ετών θα έχω φτιάξει μια μοτοσυκλέτα ικανή να διεκδικήσει το ΠΠ.

-Τι σκέφτεστε για τον Dovizioso και τον Crutchlow?
Τον Αντρέα τον παρακολουθώ εδώ και χρόνια και πάντα τον ήθελα δίπλα μου, επιτέλους τώρα τον έχω. Δεν έχω καμία αμφιβολία για αυτόν και τον εκτιμώ πολύ.
Τον Καλ τον ξέρω πολύ λιγότερο. Θεωρώ όμως ότι έχει κάνει πολύ μεγάλα βήματα την τελευταία σεζόν.

-Στο ανθρώπινο δυναμικό θα γίνουν αλλαγές?
Το πιο σωστό είναι να περιμένω να τους γνωρίσω και να δω. Πρέπει να είμαστε πολύ προσεκτικοί με κάτι τέτοια θέματα. Πρώτα απ όλα πρέπει να αξιολογηθούν οι δυνατότητες και τα καθήκοντα που έχει ο καθένας. Αν υπάρξει ανάγκη θα γίνουν αλλαγές αλλά δεν είναι και υποχρεωτικό να γίνουν όλα όπως στην
Απρίλια.

-Ποιός θα είναι ο δικός σας ρόλος και ποιούς θα έχετε κάτω από σας?
Δεν θα είμαι μόνο ο ΓΓ αλλά και ο τεχνικός διευθυντής μια φιγούρα που έλειπε από τη Ντουκάτι (εννοεί ότι έφυγε ο Πρετσιόζι)
Ο Πάολο Τσιαμπάτι εκτός από υπεύθυνος του Progetto MotoGP θα είναι και Direttore Sportivo. Φυσικά θα έχει εμπλοκή και στο wsbk ακόμα και στους αγώνες. Μετά θα υπάρχουν υπεύθυνοι σε όλα τα τμήματα αλλά δεν τους ξέρω ακόμα.

-Δώσατε και ένα μηχανάκι Open στον Hernandez, γιατί?
Το μέλλον των μοτο τζι πι φένετε να πηγαίνει προς εκείνη την κατεύθυνση. Θέλουμε λοιπόν ν αρχίσουμε να δουλεύουμε κατ ευθείαν με την όπεν γιατί είναι ένα πολύ σημαντικό πρότξεκτ για το μέλλον. Φυσικά και αυτή η μοτοσυκλέτα θα υποστεί αλλαγές προκειμένου να γίνει ανταγωνιστική.

-Η Audi μπορεί να χρησιμεύσει σε τίποτα?
Είναι ένας κολοσσός τεχνολογίας αλλά πρέπει να είμαστε έξυπνοι ώστε να καταλάβουμε τι θα μας χρειαστεί να ζητήσουμε απ αυτούς !

Παντως το 2014 αναμενεται να ειναι πολυ ανταγωνιστικο οσο αφορα τις πιο πισω θεσεις,και δεν θα εχουμε θελω να πιστευω τεραστιες διαφορες στα γυρολογια,λογω των ημιαγωνιστικων FTR-yamaha και RCV1000R honda.

Rossi spent most of yesterday working with the 2014 bike which will have to run on just 20 litres of unleaded instead of this year's 21 litres which The Doctor thinks is a problem as he ran out of fuel more than once on the slowing down lap this year.

"Today we concentrate more on the new bike. It was a bit more difficult as I wasn't fast compared to yesterday but we work a lot on the new bike and try to test some new system for the engine, for a different way to save fuel, some thing worked, some thing a little bit less," said Rossi, speaking at Valencia.

"With less fuel, the bike is more difficult to ride. A lot times this year we arrive very, very much at the limit with 21, so with 20 is worse. Is like a two-stroke when it is too lean. The engine is a bit more rude, more agressive."

Rossi also tried new front-end settings in order to improve his performance under braking and corner entry as those are the areas he says the Repsol Hondas are so much better than the YZR-M1.

"We try different things for the setting, especially for use the front tyre in the right way and improve the grip in the entry where I suffer all this season. Some thing work, some thing not. It was easier to ride the bike yesterday, but I don't know why.

"At the end, the performance is not fantastic but we make an important job for try to arrive more competitive next year. All during this season, I wasn't strong enough in braking, for stop the bike and entry, so this is the target for where we have to work.

"The Hondas are able to brake a little but deeper and enter faster than us, so this is the way to fix. We have to work on the gearbox. Usually Yamaha is good with chassis."

Valencia MotoGP Test: Crutchlow adopts more cautious approach
Cal Crutchlow was less concerned with pushing for a fast lap time on the final day of the Valencia MotoGP test as he focused on familiarising himself with the factory Ducati.

The British rider adopted a more cautious approach following a spill on Tuesday and although Crutchlow was unable to find a setting that represented a big step forward, neither did he take a step backwards as Ducati concluded its testing programme in Spain.

Crutchlow, who reduced his best lap time by 0.239s for tenth place on the Wednesday timesheets, said: “Today was a day about getting to know the team better and riding the Desmosedici some more.

“I can't really say we found any particular setting that was a big advantage or a big disadvantage.

“I continue to give clear feedback and really reiterate what the other guys were saying, which is a key point that's good; I've just come off another manufacturer's motorcycle, so it's good for Ducati that my feedback matches theirs,” he added.

With changes certain to be made for the 2014 Desmosedici, being designed under the leadership of new Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall'Igna and which will debut at Sepang in February, Crutchlow saw little point in pushing for a time attack on a bike that clearly struggled throughout the 2013 season.

“We didn't need to push for a lap time. I was a little more cautious today than the other days, but overall, I think we gave Gigi and the Ducati guys something to work on over the winter. Now I look forward to the Sepang test.”

Although 1.588s from Honda pace setter Marc Marquez, Crutchlow was already a close match for Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, lapping a mere 0.156s slower than the Italian.

Just behind the Englishman was Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, who focused on testing chassis updates with the 'laboratory' bike.

Andrea Iannone was the leading Ducati rider on the Pramac machine in seventh place, 0.281s ahead of Crutchlow.

Crutchlow's former Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Bradley Smith was second fastest with new signing Pol Espargaro sixth.

Ducati confirms 'Open' MotoGP debut at Jerez
Ducati has confirmed that the new Open class version of its Desmosedici MotoGP machine will debut later this month.

Pramac, Ducati's satellite team, is retaining Andrea Iannone and Yonny Hernandez for the 2014 season, but swapping Hernandez to the revised privateer class.

A Ducati spokesman told Crash.net that the Open Desmosedici has not yet been on track, with Hernandez due to complete the first laps during a private test at Jerez from November 27-29.

Honda and Yamaha are also providing new machinery for the Open category. However the Ducati is likely to be closest to 'Factory' spec, featuring only the minimum of modifications needed - in other words the complete standard ECU system.

That in turns allows four litres of extra fuel per race and twelve rather than five engines changes during the year, relative to the Factory bikes.

Hernandez began his second MotoGP season with PBM, swapping over to Pramac in place of the injured Ben Spies for the closing five rounds. The Colombian claimed a best result of tenth on the GP13, having injured his hand at Phillip Island.

Iannone will continue to ride a Factory specification machine next season, alongside official Ducati Team riders Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso.

'Faster is nearly impossible', says Ducati's Crutchlow



After 133 MotoGP test laps on the Ducati at Valencia, Cal Crutchlow has drawn the conclusion it is impossible to go any faster on the 2013 Desmosedici after matching the laptimes of Andrea Dovizioso, give or take a tenth.

The Isle of Man resident ended the three-day session with a time of 1'31.875, two-tenths slower than the Italian, after changing all manner of setup parameters. But he says that the bike he rode in Spain is a lot different to the one he is expecting to test at Sepang in February.

"We made a lot of changes to the bike, up, down, left, right and I had the same feeling with a lot of them. We changed the bike once to stop wheelying but gave away a lot of front-end feeling which we didn't have really anyway. It's good, it's all information for the guys, which is what I wanted to do," said Crutchlow, speaking at Valencia.

"From laptimes, and from riding against people I have beaten all year, I am not as fast on the Ducati as I was with the previous manufacturer. I don't believe this will be the bike for next year anyway. Everything I have said is the same as every other rider has said. I said it after the first day and I am saying it now, so nothing has changed.

"I didn't take any risks today. For sure, I could have gone faster but all the Ducatis are in the same position. They are doing the same laptime every lap. That is a positive for me as this is my first time on it but to go faster is nearly impossible.

"We changed two things that really made a big difference. They were worse for sure but at least there was a difference. We go from here. This test was never supposed to be me jumping on the bike and going a second faster than the other guys. Whatever happens, it is only going to get better for next year."

"Gigi has said he is going to change the bike for next year but we don't have a lot of time. Do I expect to be at the first race next year on a completely different motorcycle? No. I believe in Sepang we will be on something different or at least be able to try a lot of things."

Are you now the most successful German rider ever in the premier-class?

Stefan Bradl:
That's a difficult one, it's hard to say because I'm not absolutely sure what happened in the '60s and '70s but I'm sure that I'm at least one of the most successful riders. That's made easier though because in Germany we don't have that many riders who have taken part in the premier class.

My father Helmut was a runner up in the 250s in '91 and he was a great inspiration to me and it was he who started my interest in motorcycles when I was very young, if he hadn't been a successful motorcyclist too then I wouldn't be here now.

Was there ever a 'plan B'?

Stefan Bradl:
You always have to consider what might happen if you're unable to continue in your chosen sport. We had a little plan for me to work in a local factory in Augsburg that made sunglasses, ski helmets and things like that before I became successful, but the dream was always there to become a motorcycle rider.

Do you hang around with people like Michael Schumacher or Sebastian Vettel when you're in Germany?

Stefan Bradl:
Unfortunately not that much. We're all so incredibly busy so we don't meet up that often. I remember that Michael Schumacher came to see our grand prix in France and we had a great conversation and hopefully I can catch up with Sebastian soon. I've met him and we know each other well, but when I saw him last it was four years ago so it's probably time to catch up with each other again.

I think Sebastian follows MotoGP so he keeps up to date with what's going on it's just that motorcycles and cars are so different, like day and night so the two worlds don't often come together.

Crash.net:
Didn't Michael Schumacher try racing bikes and didn't do as well as you?

Stefan Bradl:
I think that if I were slower than him on a bike I'd have to reconsider my career! Also if I could beat him in a car then he would also have had to find a different job. It's cars where he's a genius.

Crash.net:
Did you find that racing in Moto2 was more fun than in MotoGP because of the better competition?

Stefan Bradl:
No, not really, for me it is really the same. The enjoyment in MotoGP is because you're riding the best bikes on the planet. The technology and electronics make a MotoGP bike a great challenge and it's fascinating to try to make them go fast.

Also being in the premier class is everybody's dream and when you get there you know you've arrived. It's great riding the fastest bike available against the best racers in the world. No matter what you do in Moto2, it's just a stepping stone and being in MotoGP is everybody's target.

Η Honda λέει τσατίστηκε με τα κόλπα της KTM και θα δώσει "καλά" μοτέρ σε επιλεγμένους αναβάτες. Να δούμε...

Από εδώ: In Moto3, there is more and more confirmation that Honda will be building a high-powered engine to defeat KTM. There had been a fierce internal debate inside HRC over whether to spend the money necessary to beat KTM at their own game, as the cost of the actual engine will be vastly more than the 12,000 euro price cap in Moto3. However, facing humiliation at the hands of KTM - who have found other ways to pass on the costs, hiding engine development costs in the price of a complete bike package - Honda has decided to act.

To defeat KTM, they will also need a winning team, and that team will be the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team of Alex Rins and Alex Marquez. The team, run by Monlau, the organization behind Marc Marquez and Maria Herrera's Spanish championship team, will make the switch to Honda for 2014, and take on the KTMs. With Rins and Marquez being two of the top favorites for the 2014 Moto3 title, along with Jack Miller, Honda should have everything in place to defeat the KTMs.

Whether Rins stays in Moto3 is still not 100% certain, however. Rins is believed to have a clause in his contract which says that if he wins the 2013 Moto3 title, he will enter Moto2 with the Monlau team. On the strength of Rins' performance at Aragon, his chances of being Moto3 champion are improving.

The Monlau team will not be the only one on a Honda. Racing Team Germany is also to remain with the Japanese manufacturer, and with Jack Miller having signed for the Red Bull KTM team, RTG has signed Efren Vazquez to race for them in 2014. Who Vazquez' teammate will be is as yet unknown, but the chances of it being a young rookie look promising.

"Several publications, amongst them Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, are continuing to mention Jorge Lorenzo’s possible move to Honda for the 2015 MotoGP™ season. Furthermore, the World Champion of 2010 and 2012 is quoted as not dismissing the option: “You cannot rule out any team. You never know what can happen.”
Lorenzo, whose current deal with Yamaha ends in 2014, continues: “I would like to end my career with Yamaha, retiring as a Yamaha legend. I would like to win another title as Rainey or Lawson did, but I would also like to have the best bike, so hopefully Yamaha will be able to give that to both myself and Valentino (Rossi).”
At the same time, HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto has already admitted his interest in Lorenzo by confirming that ‘we will talk to him for 2015’.
